Mises Seminar 2011
Sestri Levante, 7-8 ottobre 2011
Fredom and the Law
50 years after the publication of Bruno Leoni's masterpiece
The Mises Seminar, organized each year in Early October by Istituto Bruno Leoni in Sestri Levante (Genoa) gathers since seven years a remarkable number of students and young scholars interested in liberal theory and which are moving their first, tentative steps in the academic world.
The Seminar’s structure emphasizes the original contribution by young scholars, allowing them to present their own research to a number of their peers and to distinguished discussants.
In several occasions the papers presented at the Seminar were published in authoritative journals such as The Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, Journal of Law and Economics, The Independent Review, Journal of Public Finance and Public Choice, Revue Juridique et Economique Europe-Chine.
Bruno Leoni’s magnus opus, Freedom and the Law, was published exactly 50 years ago.
To honour IBL’s namesake, we have decided to focus this year’s Mises Seminar on this important book, requesting papers that can provide an original perspective to the relationship between liberty and law.
The response was very satisfactory, with about four dozen replies form all over the world. The submissions were vetted by a select committee, which also carefully selected the most relevant discussants.
